Court Sports

Team squash is a big part of Leyburn Community Leisure Club.

Currently we have four men’s teams in the North Yorkshire Squash League, one men’s and one women’s team in the Darlington and Cleveland League.

Home matches are usually played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The fixtures all attract outstanding support from our members.

We are a small but successful club that boasts a proud history in the leagues in which we compete. This is highlighted by the fact that last season we won the men’s North Yorkshire Division 1 league and knockout cup, and the men’s Durham and Cleveland Division 4 league and knockout cup. This year we have two junior players playing for Yorkshire in the England Squash tournaments.

We are very lucky to be able to offer Team Squash to our members. It is an incentive for many of our members to develop their skills with the aim of getting into one of our teams and playing competitive league squash.

For those that do not harbour ambitions of playing Team Squash, it is a great opportunity to come into the club on a match night and watch our home players compete against some of the best players across North Yorkshire and Durham and Cleveland.

We have a thriving junior section with about 10 juniors having regular coaching. The older juniors play in the adult leagues as well as competing in England Squash junior tournaments. The younger juniors play in the internal leagues. We have two juniors playing at county level for Yorkshire which is a great achievement for such a small club.

As well as squash being available during all opening hours, you are also able to indulge in your passion for racketball – or discover it! Rackets and balls for this are available at the club for use

All members are invited to play in the internal leagues. It is a great way to meet with other members and to develop your squash or racketball game.

We usually have 8 divisions in the squash league covering a wide range of ages and abilities. We keep the leagues varied and fresh by promoting 2 players and relegating 2 players in each league each month.

New in 2020 is the racketball ladder which we anticipate will be a great success with increasing numbers of racketball players in the club.

We currently have a team of Level 1 and 2 coaches who donate their time to provide coaching to our beginners and developing players.

Please contact the club for further details.

Shoes worn on the squash courts must be clean and non-marking.

Squash and racketball are both exciting and fast games, it is therefore imperative that you play in a safe way. If you think you may hit your opponent with your racket or the ball – ask for a let. The point can then be replayed with no disadvantage to either player.
